Q: When did you decide to become a physician?
My parents would say that I was destined for a life in the ER after a childhood visit for a significant injury (and all the subsequent visits for minor broken bones—I was an “active” child!).
In high school, I experienced the loss of a close friend who was involved in a car accident. As I was processing, I moved from blame to thinking that there could be a way that I might positively contribute and help others. In college, I spent time volunteering in and observing local Emergency Departments and developed a keen interest in the specialty. I feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine.
Q: What is your favorite part about working with IEMS and ECP?
I really love the small group dynamic. It’s great to be part of a highly functioning team and comforting to know that you are well supported by people around you.
It is also invigorating to be part of a leadership team whose members are highly motivated and excited to elevate the culture and quality of their Emergency Departments. The enthusiasm exhibited by our leadership team is highly contagious.
Q: What do you find most exciting about your job?
One of the most exciting and challenging aspects of my job is problem solving. I have always enjoyed sifting through data in search of applicable solutions. Whether functioning as a clinician or in the capacity of a leadership role, I find great pleasure in using these skills to ensure positive outcomes.
Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time in my home music studio writing, recording, and producing electronic music. When I was in high school and college, I composed music and played keyboards in several bands. Music took a back burner through my early career, but during the pandemic I rediscovered the joy and relaxation that came with creating. My children convinced me to release my music on Spotify, and it’s been a rewarding experience!
I also enjoy spending time outdoors, trying new restaurants, traveling, and exploring new destinations with my wife. We still enjoy the opportunity to visit and spend time with our children while visiting them at school.
